Background

Bungo Elementary School, situated in Gapan, Nueva Ecija, has been a cornerstone of education in the community since 1967. With a student population of 397, ranging from Kindergarten to Grade Six, the school has been instrumental in the education of children and youth in Barangay Bungo. However, the school now faces a critical challenge as their current space is being reclaimed by the landowner, necessitating urgent relocation to secure new classroom facilities for the students.

Currently, Bungo Elementary School operates in Nine (9) Marcos-type classrooms constructed decades ago. While these classrooms are made of concrete, they are shorter in size compared to the standard dimensions set by the Department of Education (DepEd). This leads to discomfort for the students, hindering their learning experience. Moreover, the aging infrastructure requires major renovations, particularly for the ceilings and windows. Despite their best efforts, the school administration is unable to undertake these renovations due to restrictions imposed by the landowner amidst land reclamation activities. With limited classroom space and deteriorating infrastructure, the school struggles to provide a conducive learning environment for the students. The need to accommodate all students has led to the shifting class. The lack of maintenance and renovation also poses a threat to the safety and well-being of the students and staff.

Through collaborative efforts with the PhilSeven Foundation and Abenson/ W&J Lim Foundation, the goal is to provide the school with additional classrooms in the new location. Groundbreaking activities and construction commencement are ready to take place promptly to facilitate the school’s relocation and ensure continuity of education for its students.
